Gray Paper

Quick nude drawings on gray paper covered with charcoal.

I add more charcoal to create the darks. Wipe the charcoal off with a tissue to form the lighter mid-tone. Use a putty rubber or chamois to take as much of the base charcoal off as possible for the high-lights.

This technique will never achieve the extreme chiaroscuro (dark and light) that working on a white sheet of paper will, but I love the speed of it.
