About Rebecca

What can I say about Rebecca that seeing her work does not already say?  Perhaps only this: to watch Rebecca draw, to see the way her eyes and her hand move, is like watching a symphony being conducted – the energy, skill, passion.

Rebecca’s work seems to capture the essence of a person, the pure feel of a moment, the style of someone’s soul.  Staring at her work, her fine work, somehow gives you the impression there is more detail than the sharpest photograph, the impression of something living in front of your eyes, and all the details that come with that life.  This is what her work does to me.  I can only hope that for those who see it, you experience what I mean.

Biography:

Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Rebecca is the daughter of artist Gerard Commissaris.  Rebecca learned to draw before she could walk.  By age 12, she began to do the backgrounds and small portions in her father’s commissions.  At age 18, she set to travel about the world, through Southeast Asia, Central America, and Europe, doing portraits in the street to finance her travels.

In London, Rebecca studied under master portraitist Nick Bashall.  She now travels the world painting, and can be found frequently in her home town of Auckland, in Sydney, New York, or San Francisco.

Rebecca accepts commissions. Price depends on the size of work, detail, and the subject matter.  She can be reached at Rebecca@RebeccaC.com.
